OpenAI has announced the release of its latest and most advanced artificial intelligence model, ChatGPT-5, which will be available to all users for free.
According to the company, the program has undergone 5,000 hours of rigorous testing and is significantly smarter, faster, and more efficient than its predecessor, GPT-4 — particularly in writing, coding, and delivering impactful results in the healthcare sector.
Speaking to reporters yesterday, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman revealed that he had tried switching back to GPT-4, describing the experience as “quite disappointing.”
The company expects the number of weekly ChatGPT users to reach 700 million this week. It is also in talks with investors, and media reports suggest that OpenAI’s valuation could reach as high as \$500 billion.
Unlike GPT-4, which sometimes refused to answer “potentially dangerous” questions, GPT-5 has been designed to provide high-quality responses within specific safety guidelines, ensuring it cannot be misused to cause harm.
OpenAI trainer Michelle Pokrass stated that GPT-5 can recognize when a task cannot be completed. “It avoids speculation and explains its limitations more clearly, which has reduced the number of unverified claims compared to previous models,” she said.
For the first time, GPT-5 introduces a “reasoning feature,” enabling the software to internally process its “chain of thoughts” before responding. Free users will have a set usage limit, after which they will be switched to GPT-5 Mini.
