QUETTA: Balochistan Launches First GBV Advisory Board for Women with Disabilities

QUETTA: Balochistan has established its first Technical Advisory Board (TAG) to support gender-based violence (GBV) service providers, with a dedicated focus on women with disabilities.

The board will oversee the implementation of the National Action Plan on Human Rights, prioritising disability inclusion. It will work with government departments, hospitals, and other organisations to improve access to GBV services and remove existing barriers.

The launch event was attended by officials from government bodies, civil society, development partners, and disability rights groups. The Social Welfare Department Secretary said the board’s mission is to ensure that people with disabilities can access justice and protection without obstacles.

Backed by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), a disability accessibility assessment will review GBV services across health facilities, law enforcement, legal aid, shelters, crisis centres, and helplines. The review will identify service gaps and recommend solutions.

Abia Akram, Director of Programmes at STEP, highlighted that women and girls with disabilities face heightened risks of violence, and this initiative will ensure protection services meet their needs.

Following the assessment, STEP, UNFPA, and the Government of Balochistan will jointly develop an action plan to enhance inclusivity and improve service delivery for persons with disabilities.
