QUETTA: The Quetta terror arrests have sparked attention after Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti held a press conference with Additional Secretary Home Hamza Shafqat. The CM addressed the arrest of Dr. Muhammad Usman Qazi, a BUITEMS lecturer, who confessed to assisting banned militant groups. Bugti said the state will act strictly against every terror facilitator to maintain security.
He stated that law enforcement agencies will ensure every terrorist supporter faces consequences. “Individuals trying to break the country will not be spared. If a professor turns into a terrorist, we cannot let him wear honors or awards,” he said.
Bugti explained that releasing Dr. Qazi’s confessional video is intended to discourage terrorism. He said the state confronts people with links to banned organizations. Authorities also intervened on August 14 to prevent major destruction in Quetta.
Dr. Qazi, a highly educated PhD holder, admitted meeting banned group members in Peshawar. Using the alias “Amir”, he facilitated terrorist operations. He provided a pistol to a female accomplice and arranged logistics for attacks, including the Quetta Railway Station suicide bombing.
The CM stressed that the state has offered respect, employment, and opportunities. Yet some citizens still support terrorist networks. He urged parents to watch their children and report suspicious behavior. He warned that all supporters of terrorism will be held accountable alongside their sponsors.
Bugti highlighted the arrest of Majid, a key member of the banned Brigade, as a major law enforcement success. He confirmed Dr. Qazi’s wife is also an educator and should not have been involved.
Rejecting claims that underdevelopment fuels terrorism, Bugti called on Parliament to combat misleading forces exploiting Baloch identity. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protect the innocent, prevent mass killings, and provide educational opportunities, including one-billion-rupee scholarships for Balochistan’s youth.

The CM announced a special cell in the Home Department to monitor educational institutions. Over 2,000 people have been screened, and preventive measures are in place to maintain peace across the province.
Bugti concluded that the state stands with the oppressed. He is ready to engage with all for peace but will not tolerate terrorism.
