Islamabad: The federal government has established the Pakistan Digital Authority (PDA) under the Digital Nation Pakistan Act 2025. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appointed Dr. Sohail Munir as Chairman of PDA on a five-year contract.
The government also appointed Muhammad J. Sayar as a member of the PDA. The Cabinet Secretariat issued a formal notification confirming the appointments. Both the chairman and member will serve for five years.
The new authority will design and implement the National Digital Master Plan. It will also create a monitoring framework for all digital projects in the country. In addition, a Strategic Oversight Committee and a National Digital Commission will support the authority’s work.
Federal Minister Shaza Fatima led the Search and Selection Committee that recommended the names. The committee included the ministers for economic affairs, finance, and railways, along with secretaries from the establishment, cabinet, and IT divisions.
The Prime Minister approved the formation of this committee in June 2025 to oversee the selection of PDA leadership. The committee was tasked to propose three candidates for each position and prepare recommendations on salaries and benefits.
Officials said the PDA will accelerate Pakistan’s digital transformation, promote e-governance, and support innovation in key sectors. The authority is expected to play a central role in implementing the government’s vision of a digital economy.
