Director General Fisheries Visits Hanna Urak Trout Fish Hatchery

Director General Fisheries Balochistan, Atiq Ullah Khan, recently visited the Hana Urak Trout Fish Hatchery to review restoration plans and ensure the facility’s full functionality. Established in 1958, this hatchery is a vital asset for the province’s aquaculture sector but was severely affected by recent floods.

During the visit, Fisheries Inspector Noor Muhammad Kakr provided a detailed briefing about the hatchery operations, including the management of approximately 120 brooders. The hatchery produces around 65,000 fish fry annually, which are supplied to nearby freshwater dams to support local fisheries and promote sustainable fish farming.

DG Fisheries emphasized that the department will prioritize repairs and improvements at the Hana Urak Trout Fish Hatchery to strengthen aquaculture development in Balochistan. “Restoring this facility is crucial for supporting local fish production and livelihoods,” he said.

The hatchery also plays an important role in research and conservation efforts for trout species in the region. By ensuring proper maintenance and modernizing infrastructure, the department aims to increase annual fish fry output and improve water management systems in collaboration with local authorities.

Aquaculture experts suggest that such hatcheries are essential for ensuring food security and promoting local economic development.
