President Asif Ali Zardari has approved a significant change in the composition of the 11th National Finance Commission (NFC) on August 30, 2025.
According to a notification issued by the Presidency, the President approved the nomination of Mahfooz Ali Khan as Balochistan’s non-ex-officio member. This decision automatically replaces the earlier approval granted for the position.
Earlier, on August 22, 2025, President Zardari had constituted the nine-member 11th NFC. The commission is chaired by Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, with the finance ministers of all four provinces serving as ex-officio members. Each province has also nominated one non-governmental expert member.
The NFC, established under Article 160 of the Constitution of Pakistan, is tasked with determining the distribution of financial resources between the federation and provinces. Its mandate also includes grants-in-aid, borrowing powers, and shared fiscal responsibilities.
The commission’s first meeting was scheduled for August 29, where federal financial data was to be presented to the provinces. However, the session was postponed due to the ongoing flood situation in several regions.
