Bannu, Pakistan: Militants launched a major attack early Tuesday morning in the northwestern district of Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, when a suicide bomber rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the gate of the Frontier Constabulary (FC) headquarters.
According to local police officials, the powerful explosion was followed by heavy gunfire and multiple secondary blasts as militants reportedly tried to storm the security compound. Security forces immediately cordoned off the area and launched a counter-operation.
A police officer confirmed that at least three policemen were injured in the initial blast and exchange of fire. Reports also suggest that several militants have been killed during the ongoing operation.
Residents said parts of the destroyed vehicle were scattered along Kohat Road, underscoring the intensity of the explosion. The police sealed the surrounding areas of the FC headquarters and advised local residents to remain indoors until the clearance operation is completed.
The incident highlights the persistent threat of militant violence in Pakistan’s northwestern tribal belt, an area that has witnessed repeated attacks on security installations.
