ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China have taken another step towards strengthening their longstanding partnership with the inauguration of a research centre dedicated to party relations, political cooperation and state governance.
The Pakistan-China Research Center for Party and State Governance was inaugurated in Islamabad on Sunday, November 1, during a special event attended by senior Pakistani political figures and Chinese officials.
The event, titled “A Journey to China, A Bond of Brotherhood”, was organised by the Pakistan-China Economic and Cultural Council (PCECC) in connection with the visit of Liu Haixing, Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.
Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong were among the prominent participants.
Addressing the gathering, Liu highlighted the importance of Pakistan-China relations, describing the partnership as an example of mutual political trust, economic cooperation and friendship between the people of both countries.
He noted that Pakistan and China had maintained close relations throughout the 75 years since establishing diplomatic ties, supporting each other through various challenges.
The Chinese official said their relationship demonstrated how countries with different political systems and ideologies could develop strong partnerships based on mutual respect, shared interests and cooperation at international forums.
Liu also expressed appreciation for the warm welcome extended to him during his visit to Pakistan.
He emphasised the need to expand exchanges at different levels and called for closer engagement between political parties and socio-economic groups in both countries.
The establishment of the research centre, he said, would provide an opportunity to strengthen cooperation and promote exchanges on party affairs and state governance.
Liu further said that under the leadership of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Pakistani leaders, the two countries had continued to deepen their All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership.
He added that both sides were steadily working towards building a China-Pakistan community with a shared future.
The newly inaugurated centre is intended to provide an institutional platform for research, dialogue and exchanges on political and governance-related matters between Pakistan and China.
Its establishment comes as both countries seek to broaden their cooperation beyond traditional areas such as defence, infrastructure, energy and trade.
The initiative also reflects growing emphasis on political engagement, academic collaboration and people-to-people contacts as important elements of the bilateral relationship.
Pakistan and China established diplomatic relations in 1951. Their partnership has since expanded across several sectors, with the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) serving as a major component of economic and infrastructure cooperation.
