TURBAT: At least seven labourers were abducted by unidentified armed men after they blocked a main highway in the Kalatak area of Turbat, while two people were killed in the incident, according to police sources.
Police said the armed assailants set up a checkpoint on the road and intercepted a vehicle carrying labourers returning from Kalatak to Turbat. The gunmen forced seven workers off the vehicle and took them to an unknown location.
According to police, the abducted workers include four Punjabi labourers and three Pashtun labourers.
Authorities later recovered the bullet-riddled body of one Pashtun labourer from the Surag area. The remaining six abducted workers—four Punjabis and two Pashtuns—remain missing, and efforts are underway to trace their whereabouts.
During the incident, a local passer-by identified as Abdul Razzaq was also killed after being caught in the crossfire, police sources said.
Following the attack, police and other law enforcement agencies launched a search operation in the area to locate the missing labourers and apprehend those responsible.
No group has claimed responsibility for the abduction or the killings. Authorities are investigating the incident, and further details are expected as the search operation continues.
The latest incident adds to growing security concerns in parts of Balochistan, where attacks on travellers, labourers, and transport routes have periodically disrupted daily life and prompted increased security operations.
