Pakistani boxer Qudratullah, who hails from Quetta, has reportedly failed to return with the national boxing team following the conclusion of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, according to sources.
The national boxing squad departed Glasgow for Pakistan after the Games concluded on Sunday. However, sources said Qudratullah did not board the return flight with his teammates, raising concerns over his whereabouts.
The boxer was part of Pakistan’s Commonwealth Games contingent but was unable to secure a medal during the competition. Pakistan’s only medal at the event came through female boxer Fatima Zahra, who won a bronze medal, while the men’s team finished the tournament without reaching the podium.
Sources familiar with the matter said Qudratullah chose not to travel back to Pakistan with the rest of the squad. No official explanation has yet been provided regarding his absence from the team’s return journey.
Responding to media queries, Pakistan Boxing Federation President Colonel (Retired) Nasir Tung said he had not received any official information about a boxer going missing. However, sources within the federation have indicated that Qudratullah did not accompany the team on its flight back to Pakistan.
The reported incident is not the first involving members of Pakistan’s sporting delegations remaining abroad after international competitions. During the 2022 Commonwealth Games in England, two Pakistani boxers also reportedly disappeared instead of returning home with the national contingent.
The Pakistan Boxing Federation is expected to seek clarification over the matter, while officials have yet to issue a formal statement confirming Qudratullah’s status or the reasons behind his failure to return with the team.
At the time of publication, no official confirmation had been issued regarding the boxer’s whereabouts.
