NA Speaker Invites Opposition for Talks with Government

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq has invited the opposition to hold talks with the government.

According to Geo News, the offer for negotiations came during remarks made in response to Asad Qaiser’s comments regarding the privileges of opposition members.

The Speaker said that parliamentary traditions, the Constitution, the law, and the rules of the National Assembly are clear to all, and upholding these traditions is the guarantee of strengthening the democratic system.

Ayaz Sadiq noted that even after the arrest of Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, no “production orders” were issued, adding that in parliamentary politics, issues can only be resolved through dialogue.

He stated he was ready to act as a bridge between the government and the opposition for talks, emphasizing that no forum is greater than the “grand jirga” of the National Assembly and the Senate. He urged all political forces to play their part in strengthening Parliament, saying that differences of opinion are the beauty of democracy but must be turned into constructive dialogue for the national interest.
