QUETTA: Authorities in Balochistan have decided to suspend mobile phone services in parts of Quetta on August 15 as part of security measures for the observance of Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA).
According to the Balochistan Home Department, mobile services will remain suspended from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. in selected areas of the city, including Qaidabad, Gawalmandi, and Brewery. The decision aims to prevent any security threats during processions and gatherings marking the religious occasion.
The department stated that the move is part of standard security protocols implemented during major religious events in the province, where mobile service shutdowns are often enforced to prevent the use of mobile devices in coordinating potential acts of violence.
In addition to the mobile service suspension, a ban on pillion riding of motorcycles is already in effect in the city as an additional precautionary measure.
Authorities have urged residents to cooperate with the restrictions and plan accordingly, assuring that the measures are temporary and intended solely for public safety.
