QUETTA: The Quetta lecturer BLA arrest has shocked Balochistan after law enforcement released the video confession of Dr. Muhammad Usman Qazi, a BUITEMS university lecturer accused of assisting the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA).
In the statement, Dr. Qazi admitted that both he and his wife were government employees and had benefited from the state. He said he completed his PhD at Peshawar University before joining BUITEMS as a Grade-18 lecturer.
Qazi revealed that during a research visit to Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad, he met three people linked to the BLA. Two of them were later killed. He confessed that Dr. Hebtan alias Kalak recruited him and connected him with Bashir Zeb, a senior BLA leader. Qazi said he remained in touch with Zeb through the Telegram app.

According to his confession, he assisted the BLA in at least three operations. Using the alias “Amir”, he first arranged medical treatment for commander Sher Dil. In November last year, he sheltered two militants at his home. One later carried out the suicide attack at Quetta Railway Station.
The lecturer also admitted to obtaining a pistol, which he gave to a woman for targeted killings. He further stated that another militant, Nauman alias Feroq, stayed at his residence for eight days before being handed over to another BLA commander. Nauman was tasked with a planned suicide attack on August 14.
Officials said investigations are continuing to identify more of Qazi’s contacts.
