A university lecturer accused of facilitating a banned militant organization has been handed over to the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on physical remand.
According to CTD officials, the accused, Dr. Usman Qazi, a lecturer at Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS), was produced before an anti-terrorism court in Quetta on Sunday.
The court approved 14 days of physical remand, placing him under CTD custody for further investigation.Dr. Qazi was recently arrested on allegations of providing logistical and operational support to a proscribed organization.
CTD sources claim that during initial interrogation, he confessed in a recorded video statement to facilitating several acts of terrorism carried out by the group.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing, and further arrests are likely as CTD expands its probe into the network allegedly linked with the detained academic.
Neither BUITEMS University nor Dr. Qazi’s legal representatives have issued an official statement regarding the case.
