New York: United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives caused by the devastating floods in Pakistan and India. He said the UN is ready to provide assistance if requested.
According to international media reports, the UN chief extended heartfelt condolences to the families of flood victims. He also expressed solidarity with the affected people, assuring that the United Nations stands prepared to offer help if an official request is made.
In Pakistan, heavy rains have wreaked havoc in several regions. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa alone, at least 323 people have lost their lives within just two days of torrential rains. The nationwide death toll has now risen to 657.
It is worth mentioning that in 2022, the UN Secretary-General visited Pakistan to personally review the destruction caused by catastrophic floods in Sindh, Balochistan, and other provinces.
