Provincial agriculture minister Mir Ali Hasan Zehri resigns from Balochistan cabinet

Provincial Minister for Agriculture Mir Ali Hasan Zehri has resigned from the Balochistan cabinet, citing differences with the chief minister and alleged interference in his constituency and department.

According to details, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader and focal person to the president submitted his resignation to Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti on Tuesday night. In his resignation letter, Mir Ali Hasan Zehri stated that he was stepping down from the agriculture portfolio as he was unable to give sufficient time and attention to the department.

Speaking to NNI later the same night, Zehri confirmed that he had differences with the chief minister. He said that undue interference was being made in both his constituency and his department, which compelled him to resign in protest.

When asked whether he had informed the president about the matter, Mir Ali Hasan Zehri said that the party leadership had been taken into confidence regarding his resignation. He added that the stature of the president is far above such “small issues,” therefore no request was made for intervention in the matter.

The resignation comes at a time when the provincial government is facing internal challenges, and Zehri’s move is being seen as a significant political development within the ruling setup in Balochistan.
