The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued the schedule for a by-election to fill a vacant general seat in the Senate from Punjab.
According to the ECP’s notification, nomination papers can be obtained on August 18, while candidates may submit their nomination papers to the Returning Officer on August 19 and 20. The initial list of candidates will be displayed on August 21, and scrutiny of nomination papers will be conducted on August 23. Appeals against acceptance or rejection of nomination papers may be filed on August 26, and the Election Tribunal will decide on these appeals by August 28.
The final list of candidates will be published on August 29, while August 30 has been set as the deadline for candidates to withdraw their nomination papers. Polling will take place in the Punjab Assembly on September 9 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The Senate seat fell vacant following the disqualification of PTI leader Senator Ejaz Chaudhry.
