The detained leadership of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), including prominent activist Dr. Mah Rang Baloch, was presented before an Anti-Terrorism Court in Quetta.
Among those produced were Dr. Mah Rang Baloch, Bebo Baloch, Gulzadi, Mama Ghafar Baloch, Sbughatullah Shah Ji, and Bibarg Baloch. On the request of the police, the court granted a 15-day extension of police remand for the BYC leaders.
The BYC, a rights-based movement that has gained prominence in recent years, has been at the forefront of protests against enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and what it calls systemic discrimination against Balochistan. Its leaders, particularly Dr. Mah Rang Baloch, have emerged as vocal critics of state policies in the province.
The arrests and continued detention of BYC leaders have sparked criticism from human rights groups, who argue that the crackdown reflects a broader attempt to silence dissent in the troubled region.
However, authorities maintain that the cases involve serious allegations under anti-terrorism laws, necessitating further investigation.
