Lakki Marwat: One person lost his life while eight others sustained injuries after an explosion targeted a bus belonging to a private cement factory in Lakki Marwat on Tuesday, officials confirmed.
According to Medical Superintendent (MS) Dr. Kifayat, the injured were immediately shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Lakki Marwat, where emergency measures were enforced following the incident. He stated that a woman is also among the injured passengers. The MS further added that the condition of two injured individuals remains critical, and they are being provided intensive medical care.
Police officials said the bus was en route from Begukhel to Lakki Marwat when the explosion occurred. The blast caused panic in the area, prompting locals to rush to the scene and assist in rescue efforts before law enforcement and rescue teams arrived.
Security forces swiftly cordoned off the site of the explosion and launched a search and clearance operation. Bomb disposal and forensic teams were also called in to collect evidence and determine the nature of the blast. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) or another source.
Law enforcement agencies have initiated an investigation into the incident, recording statements from eyewitnesses and injured passengers. Police officials stated that all possible angles are being examined, including sabotage and targeted attacks, while security has been heightened across the district.
The incident has once again raised serious concerns regarding the safety of industrial workers and public transport in sensitive areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Local residents and workers have urged the authorities to enhance security measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
