Turbat: Heavy cache of weapons recovered, illegal arms smuggling attempt foiled

Turbat/Quetta: Customs authorities, in a timely and intelligence-based operation, recovered a heavy cache of illegal weapons from a suspicious vehicle in Turbat, successfully foiling a major arms smuggling attempt in Balochistan, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

According to customs officials, the operation was conducted after receiving credible information regarding the movement of a suspicious vehicle believed to be involved in illegal arms transportation. During the search, officials recovered 400 pistols and 340 magazines, all of which were being smuggled without legal documentation.

Customs authorities said that the suspected individual was arrested on the spot along with the vehicle used in the smuggling attempt. The seized weapons were immediately taken into custody and shifted to a secure facility for further examination and legal proceedings.

Officials stated that the recovery of such a large quantity of weapons could have posed a serious threat to public safety and law and order if it had reached criminal elements. The timely action by Customs Turbat prevented what authorities described as a potential major security incident in the province.

Customs officials further confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway to determine the origin of the weapons, the route used for smuggling, and the intended destination. Authorities are also probing whether the arrested suspect is linked to a larger network involved in illegal arms trafficking across Balochistan and other parts of the country.

The operation highlights the growing efforts of law enforcement and customs departments to curb illegal weapons smuggling and strengthen border and internal security. Officials reiterated their commitment to taking strict action against those involved in activities that threaten peace and stability in the region.

Authorities said further details, including possible arrests and legal action, will be shared as the investigation progresses.
