Security agencies have foiled a major terrorist plot in Karachi during an intelligence-based operation, recovering more than 2,000 kilograms of highly dangerous explosive material and arresting three terrorists.
Addressing a press conference at the Karachi Central Police Office, DIG Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Azfar Mahesar said the operation was carried out on the basis of credible intelligence provided by a premier intelligence agency.
He termed the action timely, complex, and highly professional.According to the DIG, after several days of surveillance and meticulous planning, a well-organized terrorist network was uncovered, leading to the seizure of a massive quantity of explosive material capable of causing large-scale destruction.Police officials stated that one terrorist was arrested during the initial operation.
Further interrogation led to the arrest of two more suspects late last night. The arrested individuals have been identified as Jalil alias Fareed, Niaz alias King, and Hamdan alias Fareed.Investigations revealed that the terrorists were planning attacks on civilian targets in Karachi.
Authorities said the explosive material was transported from Afghanistan through Balochistan to Karachi.Due to the timely and decisive action by security forces, the city was saved from a potential major catastrophe۔
