Panjgur: A powerful explosion rocked Chitkan Bazaar in Panjgur on Tuesday, leaving one person dead and at least 12 others injured, including two children, officials and eyewitnesses confirmed.
According to details, the blast occurred near Jamia Masjid Road, one of the busiest commercial areas of Chitkan Bazaar. The explosion was so intense that it sent shockwaves across the city, causing panic among residents and shopkeepers. Within seconds of the blast, traders hurriedly shut down their shops, and several markets in the surrounding area were completely closed.
Eyewitnesses reported scenes of chaos following the explosion, with injured people lying on the ground and locals rushing to help before emergency responders arrived. The blast damaged nearby shops and vehicles, though the exact extent of material losses has yet to be officially assessed.
Security forces, police, and other law enforcement agencies reached the scene immediately after the incident. The area was cordoned off, and authorities began collecting evidence to determine the nature and cause of the explosion. Bomb disposal and investigation teams were also called in as part of the security response.
All injured individuals were shifted to the Teaching Hospital Panjgur, where emergency measures were imposed. Hospital sources said that three of the injured are in critical condition, while others are receiving medical treatment. Doctors confirmed that two children were among the wounded, raising concerns over civilian safety in public spaces.
Officials said that the nature of the blast could not be determined immediately, and investigations are ongoing to establish whether it was caused by an explosive device or any other means. Law enforcement agencies are examining all possible angles and have initiated a thorough inquiry into the incident.
The explosion has once again highlighted security challenges in parts of Balochistan, particularly in crowded marketplaces. Local residents expressed fear and concern, urging authorities to strengthen security arrangements to protect civilians and prevent similar incidents in the future.
Authorities stated that further details would be shared once the investigation progresses and more information becomes available.
