Khuzdar: At least three people were killed and two others injured after unidentified assailants opened fire in the Nal area of Khuzdar district, police said on Monday.
According to police officials, the victims were attacked by unknown armed men under circumstances that are still being investigated. The injured were shifted to a nearby medical facility, where their condition was reported to be stable.
Police said that one of the deceased belonged to the Hindu community and was identified as Mallu Mal, a local trader. The other two victims were identified as Abdul Rasheed and Abdul Saboor.
Initial investigations revealed that the victims had gone to Harunbo Dam for a picnic when the incident occurred. Law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the attackers.
Police said evidence was being collected from the scene, while statements of witnesses were also being recorded. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
It is pertinent to mention that the Balochistan government has imposed Section 144 across the province in view of the prevailing law and order situation. According to the official notification, the display and use of weapons, as well as pillion riding, have been completely banned. The use of unregistered vehicles has also been prohibited.
Under Section 144, gatherings of five or more people, including rallies, sit-ins, and processions, are banned throughout the province. The notification stated that these restrictions have been enforced with immediate effect for one month.
Authorities warned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found violating the imposed restrictions.
Police said investigations into the Khuzdar incident were ongoing and further details would be shared once available.
