QUETTA: EVA G Alliance Balochistan has strongly condemned the alleged years-long harassment, threats, forced marriage attempts, abduction, violence, and repeated attacks against Asma Jatak and her family, describing the recent killing of her father, Master Inayatullah Jatak, as a grave incident that raises serious concerns about the protection of women, human rights, the rule of law, and access to justice in Balochistan.
In a detailed statement issued on Friday, the alliance expressed deep sorrow and anger over the incident, stating that the murder of Master Inayatullah Jatak had caused an irreparable loss to the family while highlighting what it described as the urgent need for effective protection mechanisms for victims facing persistent threats.
The alliance said that if the affected family had repeatedly sought protection and informed authorities about alleged threats over several years, yet no effective preventive measures were taken, the matter required a comprehensive, transparent, and impartial investigation. It maintained that protecting the life, dignity, and freedom of every citizen—particularly women and their families—is a constitutional and legal responsibility of the state.
According to the statement, civil society organizations, human rights groups, and EVA G Alliance Balochistan believe that crimes such as violence against women, forced marriage, abduction, intimidation, and attempts to impose one’s will through fear cannot be tolerated in any civilized society. The alliance warned that failing to bring those allegedly responsible, along with anyone found to have supported them, to justice could further undermine public confidence in the justice system and encourage lawlessness.
The organization also stressed that accountability should not be limited to those directly accused of committing crimes. It argued that anyone found to have facilitated, sheltered, assisted, or attempted to protect alleged offenders from legal action should also face prosecution under the law if evidence establishes such involvement.
The alliance called on the Government of Balochistan and relevant institutions to launch an immediate, high-level, transparent, and impartial investigation into the case. It further demanded the arrest and prosecution of those accused in connection with the killing, alleged abduction, threats, and forced marriage allegations, in accordance with the law.
In addition, the statement urged authorities to investigate any individuals allegedly involved in facilitating or supporting the suspects and to take legal action against any public officials whose negligence or failure to act is proven during the course of the investigation.
EVA G Alliance Balochistan also appealed for immediate and effective security for Asma Jatak, her family members, and all relevant witnesses to prevent further harm. It further called on the provincial government to adopt stronger measures to prevent violence against women, forced marriages, abductions, and harassment, while ensuring timely trials and the effective delivery of justice in such cases.
The alliance appealed to the Chief Minister of Balochistan, the provincial Home Department, the Inspector General of Police, law enforcement agencies, human rights institutions, and the judiciary to prioritize the case and ensure that the affected family receives prompt and effective justice.
Concluding its statement, EVA G Alliance Balochistan said that “justice delayed is justice denied” and reaffirmed its commitment to continue advocating for women’s rights, human dignity, the rule of law, and justice while standing with the affected family in its demand for accountability.
