QUETTA: The Balochistan Food Authority (BFA) has taken emergency action following reports of children falling ill after consuming bakery products in the Saryab area of Quetta. According to officials, 18 children and 2 women became unwell after eating contaminated items from the Pak Star Baking Unit.
A spokesperson for the BFA stated that inspections revealed serious violations of hygiene standards. Laboratory tests confirmed the presence of bacteria in the baked products, while unsafe ingredients such as dirty oil, spoiled margarine, expired chocolate topping, exposed sewage, and unlabeled cake sponge were also found at the bakery.
The baking unit has been sealed immediately, and samples have been sent to the laboratory for further testing. Legal proceedings against the owners have been initiated.
Director General of the BFA emphasized, “Those who compromise the health of children will not be spared under any circumstances.” Balochistan Health Secretary Waqar Khurshid Alam added that strict action will be taken against those selling substandard food in the province.
