QUETTA: Unknown armed men opened fire on Jinnah Road in central Quetta on Thursday, killing one person on the spot.
Police said the victim was identified as Muhammad Salam Tareen. His body was shifted to a nearby hospital for legal procedures.
According to initial reports, the attackers fled immediately after the shooting. Police launched a search operation in the surrounding areas to trace the suspects. The motive behind the attack is still unknown.
Eyewitnesses reported panic in the busy commercial zone as traders closed their shops and people rushed for safety. Security forces quickly cordoned off the area.
Police officials confirmed that investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby shops and banks. “We are trying to establish the identity of the shooters,” a senior police officer said.
Authorities stated that a murder case will be registered against the unknown suspects. Investigators are also questioning possible witnesses.
Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, has seen several targeted shootings in recent years. Many incidents remain unsolved, creating frustration among residents.

The body of the deceased was handed over to his relatives after medico-legal formalities. Funeral prayers are expected later in Quetta.
