A Crimes Branch investigation officer has been suspended for misuse of authority after allegedly releasing suspects involved in a double murder case. Authorities have also ordered his arrest and initiated departmental proceedings against him.
According to DIG Crimes Branch Farhan Zahid, the investigation officer, Ghulam Ali Jamali, unlawfully released two suspects, Sammaullah and Khalil, under Section 169 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The suspects had been accused of killing two brothers and seriously injuring two others. They were arrested by a Crimes Branch team on September 19.
Officials said that after releasing the suspects, the investigation officer went missing and his mobile phone has remained switched off. Raids are being conducted for his arrest, while departmental action against him is already underway.
