The Balochistan High Court has declared that any discriminatory approach in the supply of natural gas to Balochistan will not be tolerated, directing the Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) and the provincial government to submit a comprehensive report.
According to an SSGCL report submitted to the court, Balochistan currently receives only 60 MMCFD of gas, compared to 407 MMCFD to Punjab and 198 MMCFD to Sindh.
The court observed that this disparity constitutes a violation of Article 158 of the Constitution and the principle of equal treatment.
The High Court ordered SSGCL to present full details of gas supply to all districts and tehsils of Balochistan. It also instructed the Chief Secretary Balochistan to update the court on progress made in discussions with the federal government.
Taking notice of the approaching winter season, the bench further directed that gas pressure in Quetta must be immediately increased to ease the hardship faced by citizens. The case has been adjourned until November 4, 2025, for the next hearing.
