Three alleged robbers were shot dead in an exchange of fire with police in Jinnah Town on Monday. The encounter took place within the jurisdiction of the local police station when officers reportedly confronted the suspects during a routine patrol, local Police claimed.
According to police, the men were present in the area with the intention to carry out a robbery. Officers said the suspects opened fire as soon as they spotted the police team. The sudden attack prompted law enforcement to retaliate. In the brief but intense gunfight, all three suspects were fatally wounded.
Police officials stated that the bodies were shifted to Civil Hospital for legal formalities and post-mortem examinations. Investigators are now working to determine the identities of the deceased, as none of them carried any documents. Their fingerprints have been taken and will be cross-matched with existing criminal records.
Officials added that the swift response of the police prevented a possible robbery attempt in the neighborhood. The area had witnessed an increase in street crime in recent weeks, prompting enhanced patrols and surveillance.
A senior officer said the encounter highlights the ongoing risks police face while dealing with armed suspects. He noted that the attackers showed no hesitation in firing at officers, forcing the team to respond with equal force to protect themselves and nearby residents.
The crime scene was cordoned off immediately after the incident. Police recovered weapons and ammunition reportedly used by the suspects. Forensic teams collected evidence to support the investigation.
