Islamabad: Pakistan has formally issued a demarche to the Acting British High Commissioner following a protest staged outside the Pakistani Consulate in Bradford.
According to Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Andarabi, the demarche was delivered in response to the use of a political party’s official account in the United Kingdom to allegedly mobilize demonstrators. He said the protesters used highly provocative and objectionable language against the Field Marshal.
The spokesperson stated that Pakistan expects the British authorities to take appropriate action against those involved in disorderly and provocative conduct.
Responding to the development, a spokesperson for the British High Commission in Islamabad said that police and prosecutors in the United Kingdom operate independently and without political interference.
The British spokesperson added that if any government believes a crime has been committed in the UK, it should share all relevant evidence with the UK police liaison officer. Any material found to be in violation of British law will be reviewed by the police, and based on the findings, criminal investigations may be initiated.
