Nine killed as avalanche hits house in Domel area of Chitral

At least nine people were killed and one child sustained injuries after an avalanche struck a residential house in the Domel area of Chitral, officials confirmed on Sunday.

According to the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Chitral, a massive snow slide hit a house in Domel, burying its occupants under heavy snow and debris. Rescue teams rushed to the scene and successfully recovered all bodies from the rubble.

Officials said that the deceased included four women and five men, while the injured child was shifted to a nearby medical facility for treatment. The condition of the injured child was reported to be stable.

Local authorities stated that the incident occurred amid severe winter conditions and heavy snowfall in upper parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, increasing the risk of avalanches in mountainous regions.

Meanwhile, in Tirah Valley of Khyber district, a rescue operation is underway to relocate internally displaced persons (IDPs) who were stranded due to recent heavy snowfall.

Deputy Commissioner Khyber Bilal Shahid said that timely and coordinated measures were taken under the supervision of the district administration, ensuring that all affected families were safely shifted to secure locations.

Authorities have urged residents of snow-prone areas to remain cautious and follow advisories, warning that further snowfall could trigger additional avalanches in vulnerable regions.
