Silent but effective health reforms transform Balochistan healthcare sector: CM Sarfraz Bugti

Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has said that a silent but highly effective revolution has been brought about in the Balochistan Health Department over the past few months, significantly improving access to medical services across the province, particularly in remote and underdeveloped regions.

Speaking about the progress made in the healthcare sector, the Chief Minister revealed that approximately 3,000 doctors have been recruited on a contract basis, addressing long-standing staff shortages in government hospitals and basic health facilities. He said the move was aimed at ensuring the availability of qualified medical professionals where they are needed the most.

CM Bugti further stated that 164 Basic Health Units (BHUs) across Balochistan have been fully activated, restoring primary healthcare services that had remained dysfunctional for years. These facilities are now providing essential medical care, maternal health services, and emergency treatment to local populations.

“The people of far-flung and deprived areas are now receiving basic healthcare facilities close to their homes,” the Chief Minister said, adding that improved access to health services is reducing the burden on major hospitals in urban centers such as Quetta.

He emphasized that strengthening the healthcare system remains a top priority of the provincial government, noting that previous neglect had severely affected public health outcomes in the province. According to CM Bugti, reforms were carried out quietly to ensure sustainability rather than short-term publicity.

The Chief Minister also announced that the scope of health facilities will be further expanded, with plans to activate more health units, improve infrastructure, and enhance the availability of medicines and diagnostic services in government hospitals.

“These reforms are not the end but the beginning,” he said, stressing that the government is committed to building a responsive and accessible healthcare system for all citizens of Balochistan.

Health sector experts and local communities have welcomed the initiative, saying that the revival of BHUs and recruitment of doctors is already showing positive results in underserved districts.
