The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has suspended the election schedule for the NA-256 Khuzdar by-election, which was earlier set to take place on 5 April 2026, citing the deteriorating law and order situation in the constituency.
According to the official notification issued on 27 March 2026 from Islamabad, the decision was made following a formal request from the Provincial Government of Balochistan. The ECP stated that the prevailing security environment in the area does not allow for the safe and transparent conduct of the electoral process.
The Commission has also summoned the Chief Secretary of Balochistan and the Inspector General of Police to brief the ECP in person regarding the current situation and the steps required to restore stability before a new election schedule is announced.
The notification, signed by Deputy Director (Coord.) Muhammad Asad Ali, has been forwarded to the Printing Corporation of Pakistan Press for publication in the Gazette of Pakistan.
