Quetta: The Balochistan government has decided to install a modern bus tracker system in long-route passenger buses to improve road safety and reduce accidents on hazardous highways.
According to the provincial transport department, the initiative has been launched under special directives from the government to address increasing safety concerns on national highways. The system will initially be implemented on key routes, including N-25, N-50, N-65, N-70, and N-40, where traffic accidents have been a persistent issue.
Officials stated that the tracker devices will enable real-time monitoring of bus speed, allowing authorities to keep a close watch on drivers and enforce traffic regulations more effectively. If a bus exceeds the prescribed speed limit, an instant alert will be sent to a central control room, ensuring immediate response and accountability.
The transport department has made it clear that no route permit will be issued without a valid tracker certificate, making the installation of tracking devices mandatory for all long-distance buses operating on national highways.
In addition, strict penalties and legal action have been announced for violations. Authorities emphasized that over-speeding and reckless driving will not be tolerated, and transport operators failing to comply with the new regulations may face fines, route suspensions, or other disciplinary measures.
The introduction of the digital monitoring system is expected to significantly enhance passenger safety and bring transparency to the transport sector. Officials believe that this move will help modernize Balochistan’s transport infrastructure and align it with contemporary safety standards.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to reforming the transport system and ensuring safer travel for the public across the province.
