Khuzdar: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) workers blocked the Quetta-Karachi National Highway on Tuesday to protest the disappearance of their leader, Sarar Zada Mir Muhammad Yousuf Qalandrani.
The protest began in the Sabzi Mandi area, where JUI activists staged a sit-in and demanded his immediate recovery. They shut down traffic in both directions, causing heavy disruption to passenger and goods transport.
Party workers announced that the sit-in would continue until Qalandrani is recovered. The blockade left hundreds of vehicles stranded on one of the country’s busiest highways.
Qalandrani, a local JUI leader, was reportedly missing for several days. The party alleges he was picked up under unclear circumstances, sparking anger among supporters.
The Quetta-Karachi highway is the main road link between Balochistan’s capital and the port city, making the disruption especially significant. Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the protest.
