Rain and snowfall increase cold weather as walls collapse across Balochistan

Rainfall across Pakistan has intensified cold weather conditions, while northern parts of Balochistan experienced the first winter rain and snowfall of the season, causing structural damage and power disruptions in several areas.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a strong weather system is affecting Islamabad, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan. The department has forecast more rain and snowfall in the coming days, particularly in upper and mountainous regions, which may further lower temperatures.

In Chaman, Qila Abdullah, and Toba Achakzai, heavy rain combined with strong winds led to the collapse of several walls and electricity poles. Trees were uprooted in multiple localities, disrupting daily life and traffic movement. Residents reported sudden power outages after damaged electricity infrastructure forced authorities to suspend supply in many parts of northern Balochistan.

Upper northern districts of the province faced widespread electricity suspension, leaving households without heating and lighting as temperatures dropped sharply. Local administrations have started assessing damages, while repair work is expected to begin once weather conditions improve.

Meanwhile, the mountainous areas of Kan Mehterzai received the first snowfall of the winter season, marking a significant change in weather after months of dry conditions. The snowfall further intensified the cold, especially during nighttime, prompting residents to take precautionary measures.

Weather experts believe that the rainfall, occurring after nearly ten months, will play a crucial role in easing drought-like conditions in Balochistan. The province has faced prolonged dry spells that severely affected agriculture, livestock, and water availability. Farmers and local communities have welcomed the rain, hoping it will improve soil moisture and replenish water resources.

However, authorities have advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain cautious, as continued rain and snowfall may increase the risk of landslides, road blockages, and further power disruptions. Emergency teams remain on alert to respond to any situation arising from adverse weather.

The PMD has urged travelers to check weather updates before heading toward northern and mountainous regions, as conditions may worsen in the next 24 to 48 hours.
