Mir Sarfraz Bugti Appointed Chief of Bugti Tribes, Assumes New Tribal Leadership Role

A significant tribal jirga was held in Baker, the historical and ancestral center of the Bugti tribes, where Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti was unanimously appointed as the Chief of Bugti Tribes.

The decision was made after consultations among senior tribal elders, chiefs, and notable figures of the Bugti community. The position had remained vacant following the death of the former Chief, Wadera Muhammad Sharif Bugti, who was also the Chief Minister’s cousin.Following the jirga’s decision, a formal ceremony was organized in Baker, during which Mir Sarfraz Bugti was presented with the traditional tribal turban, symbolizing leadership, trust, and collective responsibility.

The ceremony was attended by chiefs and elders from various Bugti sub-tribes, including Shambani, Kalpar, Mondrani, Pirozani, Nothani, and Domb clans. According to tribal customs, the turban ceremony reflects the community’s confidence in the leader and his commitment to serve the tribe.

Addressing the gathering, Mir Sarfraz Bugti said that the turban placed on his head was not merely an honor but a sacred trust and a great responsibility. He pledged that he would never disappoint the Bugti people and would repay this trust through sincere service to his community.

He reaffirmed his determination to address the issues faced by the Bugti tribes with dedication and commitment.Highlighting the importance of education, the Chief Minister expressed concern that the Bugti community has lagged behind in the educational sector. He said providing education and empowering the younger generation would remain his top priority, emphasizing that education is the key to progress and sustainable development within tribal society.Speaking on the broader situation in Balochistan, Mir Sarfraz Bugti said that Baloch communities are being deliberately pushed toward conflict and confrontation.

However, he stressed that the Bugti tribe believes in peace, development, and struggle within the constitutional framework. He firmly stated that the Bugti people stand with Pakistan and that their life and destiny are inseparably linked with the country’s stability and integrity.

He also extended an offer to Baloch youth and those residing in the mountains to join the national mainstream, stating that dialogue, reconciliation, and development are the only sustainable solutions to longstanding challenges, rather than violence and conflict.The position of Chief of Bugti Tribes holds immense significance within the tribal system. Traditionally, after the Bugti Nawab, the Chief of Bugtis is considered the second most influential and authoritative role.
