female suicide bomber arrested in khuzdar, security forces foil major attack: cm balochistan

Quetta (NNI): In a significant counter-terrorism development, Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti announced that security forces successfully arrested a female suicide bomber in the Zehri tehsil of Khuzdar district. The operation, based entirely on human intelligence, prevented a potentially devastating attack and saved numerous innocent lives.

According to the provincial leadership, the arrested woman—identified as Laiba—had been prepared for a suicide mission. Officials revealed that her radicalization was influenced by close relatives, including a cousin allegedly linked to the banned outfit Balochistan Liberation Army. Authorities emphasized that this case reflects a dangerous and evolving trend where militant groups are increasingly exploiting women for violent activities.

Bugti strongly criticized militant networks, including figures like Bashir Zeb, accusing them of violating cultural and societal norms by weaponizing women. He noted that traditionally, women in Baloch, Pashtun, and Islamic societies hold a position of dignity and respect, making their use in suicide attacks particularly alarming.

The chief minister highlighted that public cooperation has improved significantly, with citizens increasingly sharing intelligence with law enforcement agencies. He described this shift as a “positive turning point” in the fight against terrorism in the province.

Over the past year, authorities claim that nearly 1,000 militants have been neutralized in various operations. The provincial government has also approved Rs10 billion for strengthening the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), alongside broader reforms such as witness protection laws, faceless courts, and the establishment of de-radicalization centers.

Laiba will be placed in a de-radicalization facility, where investigators will continue questioning her while ensuring her rights and dignity are protected. Officials stressed that only female officers will handle her case to maintain ethical standards.

Bugti also raised concerns about regional security, alleging that neighboring Afghanistan has become a safe haven for as many as 27 terrorist organizations, posing a global threat. He urged the international community to take notice, warning of consequences similar to past global terror incidents if the issue remains unaddressed.

The Balochistan government reiterated its commitment to combating extremism through both force and reform, stating that long-term peace depends on governance, youth engagement, and dismantling militant narratives.
