QUETTA – Pakistan Railways and the Government of Balochistan have reached an agreement to launch a new public train service, known as the People’s Train Service, aimed at improving affordable transportation for residents in the region.
Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi announced the development, calling it a major step forward for the people of Balochistan. The initial route will connect Sariab and Kuchlak, providing a low-cost, efficient travel option for daily commuters.
Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti assured full provincial support for the initiative and pledged to personally oversee the project’s progress. “Delays will not be tolerated,” he emphasized during a high-level meeting held to fast-track the service.
To support the launch, the Balochistan government has decided to purchase engines and passenger coaches directly from Pakistan Railways. Minister Abbasi added that these assets, along with necessary facilities, will be provided within six months. He also announced upcoming upgrades to the region’s railway infrastructure.
Describing the service as a symbol of dignity and progress, the railway minister said the People’s Train Service will mark the beginning of a new era of safe, fast, and affordable transportation for local communities.
