More than 100 armed individuals, including a commander of a banned militant organization, surrendered their weapons in a significant development toward peace in Balochistan’s Sui area of Dera Bugti district.
According to official sources, the militants laid down their arms and formally pledged loyalty to the State of Pakistan. The surrender marked a major step in the government’s ongoing efforts to restore stability and integrate former militants into the national mainstream.
The surrender ceremony took place in Sui, where commander Wadera Noor Ali Chakarani, along with his associates, handed over weapons to Mir Aftab Ahmed Bugti. During the event, the former militants raised the national flag of Pakistan, symbolizing their commitment to peace and national unity.
Officials said the surrendered group had been linked to extremist activities in the region. By abandoning violence, the group demonstrated a willingness to join the democratic and constitutional framework of the country.
Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti welcomed the move and congratulated Wadera Noor Ali Chakarani and other leaders on their decision to rejoin the national mainstream. In a statement, the chief minister termed the decision “commendable” and said such steps would strengthen peace and development in the province.
“The decision by Wadera Noor Ali Chakarani and more than 100 of his companions in Sui and Dera Bugti to join the national mainstream is highly appreciable,” Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti said. He added that those who surrendered arms by raising Pakistan’s flag had chosen the path of peace and progress.
The chief minister emphasized that the provincial government remains committed to providing opportunities for reconciliation, rehabilitation, and socio-economic development to those who renounce violence. He said peace in Balochistan is essential for the prosperity of the province and the country as a whole.
Security officials believe the surrender will positively impact the law and order situation in the region and encourage other armed elements to abandon militancy. The government has reiterated that dialogue and inclusion remain key pillars of its peace strategy for Balochistan.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation while facilitating the reintegration process for those who have voluntarily laid down their arms.
