QUETTA: The Grand Alliance Balochistan has launched a province-wide two-day lockdown across government institutions, marking a significant escalation in its ongoing protest movement. Public offices across Balochistan have been shut down as part of the action, while the alliance continues to press for acceptance of its demands.
According to representatives of the Grand Alliance, the lockdown includes the closure of multiple government departments. The alliance alleges that instead of addressing their concerns, authorities are resorting to what they describe as forced termination and punitive measures against employees.
Despite the widespread shutdown of government offices, the alliance has clarified that essential healthcare services will remain unaffected. Emergency departments and casualty wards in hospitals across the province will continue to operate to ensure that critical medical services are not disrupted during the protest.
The alliance has also announced that a protest camp will be established at the Quetta Press Club on June 15. In addition to this, demonstrations are planned in every district of Balochistan, aiming to expand the movement across the province and mobilize broader participation from employees and supporters.
Furthermore, the Grand Alliance Balochistan has declared its intention to stage a sit-in during the upcoming provincial budget session. The move is expected to further intensify pressure on the government if negotiations fail to produce a resolution.
The provincial government has not yet issued an official response to the latest wave of protests and shutdowns. The situation is likely to affect administrative functioning across several departments if the stand-off continues in the coming days.
The Grand Alliance Balochistan is an umbrella organization representing employees from various government departments, advocating for service-related issues, job security, and improved working conditions across the province.
