A fragile ceasefire between Pakistan and Afghanistan remains under strain after fierce clashes erupted along several border points, including the Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), at least 23 Pakistani soldiers were martyred and 29 others injured in one of the attacks.
Verified intelligence assessments suggest that over 200 Taliban and affiliated militants have been killed, with the number of injured believed to be significantly higher. The renewed violence has pushed Pakistan-Afghanistan relations to a critical juncture, further straining already tense diplomatic ties.
Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, in a recent interview, acknowledged that no formal or indirect communication currently exists between Islamabad and Kabul, describing the situation as “a state of stalemate.”
He added that while hostility is not active, “the atmosphere remains tense, and clashes could resume at any time.”Observers warn that without decisive action against the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), prospects for lasting peace in the region remain bleak.
