Pakistan’s military on Tuesday said that Afghan Taliban fighters launched coordinated attacks on multiple border locations in Balochistan’s Spin Boldak area, which were successfully repulsed by Pakistani forces.
According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the attacks took place in the early hours of October 15 when Afghan Taliban targeted four locations along the border, showing complete disregard for the local civilian population in the divided villages of the area.
The ISPR said the attackers also destroyed the Pak-Afghan Friendship Gate on the Afghan side, describing the act as a reflection of the Taliban’s mindset towards bilateral trade and cross-border rights of divided tribes.
During the retaliatory action by Pakistani troops, 15 to 20 Afghan Taliban fighters were killed and several others injured, the statement said, adding that the situation remains fluid.amid reports of further militant build-up in nearby staging areas of the Taliban and Fitna Al Khwarij.
The military’s media wing added that the Spin Boldak assault was not an isolated incident, noting that on the night between October 14 and 15, Afghan Taliban and Fitna Al Khwarij fighters attempted to attack Pakistani border posts in the Kurram sector of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
“The attacks were effectively repulsed, causing heavy losses to Afghan positions,” ISPR stated. “Eight posts, including six tanks, were destroyed in Pakistan’s proportionate response, and 25 to 30 enemy combatants were believed to have been killed.”
Rejecting allegations that Pakistan initiated the hostilities, ISPR called the Taliban regime’s claims “outrageous, false, and baseless propaganda”, adding that such disinformation can be easily debunked through basic fact-checks.
Concluding the statement, the ISPR reiterated that the Armed Forces of Pakistan remain resolute and fully prepared to defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country, warning that any act of aggression will be met with full force
