Quetta: The Balochistan High Court (BHC) and subordinate courts across the province disposed of more than 68,000 cases during the year 2025, reflecting significant progress in reducing the judicial backlog, according to an official statement issued by the court administration.

As per the notification released by Registrar of the Balochistan High Court, Nasser Khan Yousafzai, a total of 68,467 cases were decided by the High Court and subordinate judiciary during the year.

The statement revealed that at the beginning of 2025, the Balochistan High Court had 5,272 pending cases. During the year, 6,926 new cases were filed in the High Court. Over the same period, the court successfully disposed of 5,813 cases, demonstrating steady judicial performance. As a result, the number of pending cases in the High Court now stands at 6,385, the registrar confirmed.

Similarly, the performance of subordinate courts across Balochistan showed substantial case disposal. At the start of 2025, 18,685 cases were pending in lower courts throughout the province. During the year, 62,393 new cases were instituted in these courts.

According to the official figures, subordinate courts decided 62,654 cases during 2025, exceeding the number of new filings and helping control the overall backlog. Following these disposals, the number of pending cases in subordinate courts has now reduced to 18,424, as stated in the notification.

Judicial officials view the figures as a positive indicator of improved efficiency, better case management, and increased judicial output despite resource constraints. The consistent disposal rate highlights the efforts of judges, court staff, and legal professionals to ensure timely justice for litigants across the province.

Legal experts believe that sustained reforms, use of technology, and focused administrative oversight can further enhance the justice delivery system in Balochistan. The High Court has reiterated its commitment to speedy justice, transparency, and reduction of case pendency in the coming years.
