Heavy rain and snowfall forecast in Balochistan till January 27

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a fresh spell of heavy rain and snowfall in Balochistan from today until January 27, warning that a new westerly weather system is likely to affect large parts of the province and disrupt normal life.

According to the PMD, the incoming western disturbance is expected to bring widespread rain, strong winds, and snowfall in upper and northern districts of Balochistan. The weather system may result in deteriorating conditions, particularly in mountainous and high-altitude areas.

Snowfall is expected in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Saifullah, and Qila Abdullah, where temperatures are already near or below freezing. Authorities have warned that snowfall in these areas could lead to road blockages, reduced visibility, and slippery conditions, increasing travel risks for commuters and transporters.

Meanwhile, heavy rain accompanied by strong winds is likely in southern and central districts, including Gwadar, Khuzdar, Awaran, Chagai, Panjgur, and Kech. The PMD has cautioned that intense rainfall in these regions may cause temporary flooding in low-lying areas and disrupt routine activities.

Rainfall has also been forecast for Kalat, Surab, Zhob, Kharan, Mastung, Washuk, Noshki, and Musa Khel, where intermittent showers may continue throughout the forecast period. In colder districts, rain may convert into snowfall during nighttime and early morning hours.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and district administrations have been alerted to remain prepared for any emergency situation arising from adverse weather. Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in snow-prone areas, and to take precautionary measures to protect homes, vehicles, and water supply systems from freezing temperatures.

Authorities have also urged travelers to stay updated on road conditions, particularly on highways and mountain passes, as sudden snowfall may lead to closures. Farmers and livestock owners have been advised to make arrangements to safeguard crops and animals during the inclement weather.

The PMD stated that weather conditions are expected to improve gradually after January 27, once the western system weakens and moves out of the region.
