Quetta: A total of 532 Pakistani nationals stranded in Iran have been transported from the Taftan border to Quetta under security arrangements, officials said on Saturday.
According to Deputy Commissioner Chagai Jehanzeb Shehwani, the group included 360 tourists and pilgrims (Zaireen) and 146 students who had been staying in Iran.
He said the convoy also included 24 deportees and two foreign nationals who crossed into Pakistan through the Taftan border crossing in Chagai district.
“The individuals were shifted to Quetta in 19 buses, including one spare bus, and one car,” Shehwani said.
The deputy commissioner added that security was provided by six police vehicles and 30 personnel to ensure the safe movement of the convoy from Taftan to Quetta.
Authorities in Balochistan have been facilitating the repatriation and transportation of Pakistani nationals returning from Iran, particularly students, pilgrims, and travelers, amid regional tensions.
Officials said arrangements were made to ensure the safe transit of the returnees to Quetta, from where many are expected to travel onward to their respective provinces across Pakistan.
