Quetta: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Balochistan has arrested several municipal chief officers in connection with an alleged multi-million rupee corruption case involving the misuse of development funds, officials confirmed.
According to anti-corruption sources, the arrests were made after a court cancelled the bail of the accused officers, prompting the Anti-Corruption Establishment to take immediate action. Authorities stated that raids are still underway to arrest other suspects believed to be involved in the corruption case.
Officials said that four serving chief officers of municipal committees and one former chief officer were taken into custody during the operation. Those arrested include former Chief Officer of Municipal Committee Musakhel Wali Muhammad and Muhammad Rafiq, along with serving chief officers Abdul Majeed, Bashir Ahmed Palal, Bashir Ahmed Sidayo, and Muhammad Yaqoob, while former chief officer Manzoor Ahmed is also among the detained officials.
According to investigators, cases had earlier been registered against a total of nine officers after the completion of a detailed inquiry into alleged financial irregularities in several municipal committees.
The investigation revealed that the accused officers misappropriated millions of rupees allocated for development projects by transferring funds to non-development expenditures, which constitutes a serious violation of government financial regulations.
Officials stated that the alleged corruption took place in the Municipal Committees of Musakhel, Mach, and Usta Muhammad in Balochistan. As a result of these actions, several public development projects were affected, causing delays and financial losses to the national treasury.
According to the investigation findings, the accused officers allegedly committed misuse of public funds, criminal breach of trust, and abuse of official authority, while also violating official financial rules and procedures.
Anti-Corruption authorities said that further investigations are ongoing, and more arrests are expected as law enforcement teams continue raids to apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the case.
Officials reiterated that the operation is part of ongoing efforts to eliminate corruption from public institutions and ensure transparency and accountability in the use of development funds in Balochistan.
