Quetta launches school enrollment drive with target of admitting 34,000 children

Quetta: The district administration in Quetta has announced the launch of a major school enrollment campaign aimed at bringing thousands of out-of-school children into the education system. The announcement was made by Deputy Commissioner Quetta, Mehrullah Badini, during a press conference in the provincial capital.

Speaking to journalists, the deputy commissioner said the administration is determined to expand access to education across the city. According to him, Quetta currently has 679 schools where around 172,000 students are already enrolled and receiving education.

Mehrullah Badini stated that the district government has set an ambitious target of enrolling 34,000 additional children in schools during the current year. He emphasized that improving access to education is essential for the development of both Balochistan and Pakistan.

“Only through education can we ensure progress and prosperity for Balochistan and the entire country,” he said.

The deputy commissioner also highlighted recent efforts to strengthen the education sector in Quetta. He said the teacher recruitment process has been completed in recent months, and more than 700 teachers have been hired on a contract basis to address the shortage of teaching staff in government schools.

Badini further revealed that the administration has successfully reactivated about 70 percent of previously non-functional schools in the district. He added that authorities are working continuously to improve facilities and ensure that educational institutions operate effectively.

He urged parents across Quetta to play their role in the campaign by enrolling their children in schools. “Parents must ensure that their children receive education and benefit from the opportunities being provided,” he said.

Meanwhile, District Education Officer Nasir Shah also addressed the press conference and announced that a school meal program has been launched for students. The initiative aims to improve student attendance and support the nutritional needs of children studying in government schools.

Nasir Shah said the education department is striving to make Quetta a role model for education in the province by improving school facilities, increasing enrollment, and ensuring quality learning opportunities.

Officials believe that the new enrollment campaign and recent reforms will significantly strengthen the education system in Quetta and help thousands of children gain access to formal schooling.
