Riyadh/Mecca: An Afghan national has been executed in Mecca for drug trafficking, Saudi authorities confirmed.
According to a statement by the Saudi Ministry of Interior, the Afghan citizen, Ghulam Rasool Faqir, was accused of smuggling heroin into the Kingdom. The competent court found him guilty and sentenced him to death.
The Ministry noted that the convict had filed an appeal with the Supreme Court, but the court upheld the death sentence. The execution was carried out on Saturday in Mecca.
The Saudi Ministry of Interior warned that strict penalties are enforced for drug-related crimes in the Kingdom, and anyone found guilty will face punishment according to the law.
