In Quetta and across Balochistan, mobile internet service remained suspended for the third consecutive day. The suspension has caused severe difficulties for the public and disrupted the businesses of thousands of people.
According to a senior official of the Balochistan government, the mobile internet service has been suspended due to security concerns. In the past, service was cut off in certain areas for specific periods, but never before has it been shut down across the entire province.
President of the Quetta Chamber of Small Industries, Mir Murad Baloch, expressed reservations over the move, stating that while the importance of security cannot be denied, thousands of livelihoods in Balochistan are connected to the internet.
In a statement, he said the shutdown of mobile internet has created difficulties for many. He noted that daily wage earners in sectors such as food delivery, e-commerce, mobile banking, and freelancing have been badly affected.
He suggested that instead of a complete shutdown, a balanced internet suspension policy should be adopted to safeguard livelihoods in Balochistan.
Meanwhile, a motion of adjournment has been submitted in the Senate against the suspension of mobile internet service. The motion was filed by Senator Kamran Murtaza.
